Weekly Roundup - March 23, 2013

It was a pretty busy week for me, although camping was great.  Got a little too sunburned but nothing I can't put up with.  Of course now I'm sloughing off dry skin like crazy so it's kind of gross.  Tuesday I had to head back to work which I wasn't ready for but knew it was coming.  On the plus side, I found out that we got 2 days of bonus for the well we finished last week and that will give me an extra $800 before taxes.  Nothing wrong with extra money.  Now on to the links.

Some interesting search terms from this past week:

"a lot of people in finance industry got laid off"...That they did, and unfortunately the ones that were most responsible got paid ridiculous severance packages or kept their job

"can my company lay me off if i'm close to retirement?"...Pretty sure that's a big fat yes

"do i still collect my 4% when i'm laid off"...4% what? Company matching on 401k?  I did but I think that would depend on the company

"getting laid off similar to a death"...I don't think it's quite that bad

"financial independence 8 million"...I wish I had that, although it can be done on much less than that

"impressive savings rates"...Glad that sent someone my way.  I think I'm doing pretty good on that front

    1. No problem. Loved the primer. Pointed someone that way when they were asking for a description of DGI and unfortunately I don't have much on my site covering DGI in a broad sense. So I'll have to get a post going about that. Got a huge backlog of posts to write that I have an idea for so I'll just add it to the list.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Pursuit,

Thanks so much for including me!

Sorry to hear about the sunburn. Funny story - when I first moved to Florida back in mid-2009 I decided to go to the beach (as any new Florida resident would). Well, I parked my car (I had a car back then) at the parking lot and left my wallet and other stuff I didn't want to get wet in the car. I also left my sandals in there because I figured I wouldn't need them walking on the sand. Big mistake! I started walking to the sand from the parking lot and I could feel my feet burning like hell. I then started running to the beach, only to find no relief. The sand was almost as hot as the parking lot pavement! At any rate, by the time I got back to the car to get my sandals my feet were toast. I had to nurse blisters all over my feet for about a week while I basically couldn't walk. Live and learn! :)

    Best wishes.

    1. DM,

No problem. The sunburn ended up being pretty tame which was surprising considering how bad it looked the day after I got it. Although I pretty much bathed in aloe so that I'm sure that helped. The worst part is that I forgot about my sunglasses and hat until it was too late so I'm noticeably pale from my cheeks and up.

I've done the same thing as you way too many times, but luckily I've never been blistered by it. Of course I usually chicken out after one step and go and grab my sandals. I hate when the sand gets that hot but the beach it awesome. If only they could find a way to fix that. Sorry to hear about those blisters, but I'm sure you won't make that mistake again.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great weekend!

  4. DGSI,

You won't be hearing any complaints from me about it. I just wish it would get in my hands so I can put it work quicker. They said it's 2-3 months for it to get to my company and then my guess is another 1-2 months for it to be paid out to me. It's a shame that it'll take that long but it's still extra money.

    No problem on the mention.

    Thanks for stopping by!
