Dividend Update - July 2013

And another one bites the dust!  Seriously, was July shorter this year by about 10 days?  It was a pretty quiet month for dividends as well as new additions to the FI Portfolio.  I only started small positions in Realty Income and General Electric but other than that it was selling off shares of Halliburton, which I purchase through the ESPP program offered at work.  I've been selling off some shares to try and diversify away from my employer and also use those proceeds to help with the down-payment for our potential house purchase.  We actually have an offer in right now so we'll see what happens.

I received a total of $96.80 in dividends in my FI portfolio in July and have received a total of $1,122.03 through the first 7 months.  This was a 376% increase from July 2012 and a 43% increase over April 2013.  I know the percentage increases will only be heading lower but as long as steady progress is being made I'm happy.  Only JP Morgan paid out in my Roth IRA with a $7.92 payout.  So far in 2013 I've received $113.72 in dividends in my Roth IRA.  I was originally hoping to receive closer to $2,750 in dividends in 2013, but I don't really expect to see that target get hit.  Although the goal does include option premium income and interest as well, which I will surpass that goal since I'm now up to $1,645.86 in option premium income this year.  My FI portfolio forward dividends sit at $2,934.66 and in my Roth they are at $222.47.  The FI portfolio forward dividends are now 83.85% of the way towards my goal of $3,500 by the end of 2013.  I'm not sure if this goal will be met by the end of the year although I'm really hoping to at least get close.  The possible house purchase has come sooner than I expected so hopefully that will allow me to start contributing to the FI Portfolio once again.

  1. I'm rolling over a 401k at the moment so unfortunately I didn't get any this month, but I did open up a Roth IRA and put my first investments into it, gotta start somewhere!

    1. KTG,

The best time to start investing is yesterday. The next best is today. As long as you're getting money working for you you'll be further ahead in the long run. I'll be glad when I'm rolling my 401k over since that should mean I've reach FI/ER.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Pursuit,

Congrats on the offer. I hope it goes through and you guys get the house of your dreams. Will you post up a pic of it if/when you buy? I'd love to see it.

Keep up the great work. Another solid month of passive income!

    Best wishes.

    1. DM,

The offer was accepted so now we wait for the inspection and then appraisal. If those both come back good then we'll be moving forward with the purchase. I really like the house a lot and think it has a lot of what we wanted. Not everything because you would need to design it yourself but it's got a good chunk of what we wanted. I'll get pics up once we move in and get situated. The backyard is awesome and that works out great since my wife and I both want to spend more time outside. That was a big factor in moving to where we did since it's closer to some state parks and just in general more stuff to do outdoors.

It was a great month of passive income! I should get over $100 every month from here on out which is a milestone in itself. It's still not all that even but it's steps in the right direction. I'll be curious to see how well you did in July!

      Thanks for stopping by!

    1. DGM,

The YoY increases are going to start coming down, at least percentage wise but as long as it's improving month to month and year to year I'm making progress towards FI. The offer was accepted so now we're moving forward with the next steps.

    1. CI,

I should actually be over $100 in every month from now on which is a big step. It's still heavily skewed towards the Mar, Jun, Sep, Dec payouts but it's a start. I'm ready to go on and get everything signed and keys in hand. Soon enough though.

      Thanks for stopping by!
