Weekly Loyal3 Purchases

Back in August I started a new portfolio with Loyal3.  Loyal3 is a new brokerage that allows you to make purchases with no commission costs.  That's right, fee free investing.  Even better is that you can make the purchases with your credit card and earn cash back rewards.  For me that's an extra 1% yield on the first year's dividend.  It's a great way to dollar cost average into positions over time although they do have a limited selection of companies you can invest in.

Each week I plan to make small purchases in several companies to slowly build up the positions.  This allows me to get some capital invested every week, for free.  The valuations might not always be the best but it does help me to consistently build up my portfolio and dividend stream that will eventually allow me to consider early retirement.

Here's a bit of a recap from the first half of October.  I've been quite busy taking take of things with Lucas and it sure has been an adventure thus far.  Since I'm not exactly sure what our expenses will be like I haven't been making any big purchases with the pullback in the markets.  So I've just been adding slowly but surely to several wide moat companies.  I invested $425 since my last update so without further ado, here's the transactions.
  • BRK.B - 10/2/14 0.1787 shares @ $139.93 / 0.00% YOC / $0.00 annual dividends

  • KRFT - 10/4/14 0.4463 shares @ $56.01 / 3.75% YOC / $0.94 annual dividends
  • KO - 10/4/14 0.5688 shares @ $43.95 / 2.78% YOC / $0.69 annual dividends

  • AAPL - 10/13/14 0.2544 shares @ $98.26 / 1.91% YOC / $0.48 annual dividends
  • DIS - 10/13/14 0.3064 shares @ $81.58 / 1.05% YOC / $0.26 annual dividends
  • BRK.B - 10/15/14 0.1823 shares @ $137.11 / 0.00% YOC / $0.00 annual dividends
  • GOOGL - 10/15/14 0.0472 shares @ $529.91 / 0.00% YOC / $0.00 annual dividends

My forward 12-month dividends for my Loyal3 portfolio are now up to $23.32.  Adding that to my regular taxable account's forward dividends of $5,207.03 and my total forward dividends are up to $5,230.35.  I'm now 95.10% of the way towards my revised goal of $5,500.

I've updated my Portfolio page to reflect these changes.

  1. Nice picks, JC. I hold all of them except VFC, and that's a good one that I have owned in the past. Funny, I never considered the cash back aspect of using a credit card for Loyal3 purchases, but that makes the deal even better.

    1. KeithX,

The cash back isn't anything to get too excited about but I'll take an extra 1% where I can get it. I'm really liking my Loyal3 portfolio since I can slowly add to positions over time. I don't have to worry too much about the valuation as long as it's not grossly overvalued which I don't think any of these companies are. I'm sticking with some of best run companies in the world so this should work out well in the long run. AAPL is the only one that I'm really semi-concerned about because they are the one that's most tied to the whims of the consumer. But their ecosystem hooks their users in.

  2. Loyal3 makes dollar cost averaging very simple. With our regular broker I have to make a bigger purchase to minimize the commission cost. Investing is simpler with loyal3, the only thing that I dont like is it seems like forever for my purchase to reflect on my account. Do you have the same issue or you dont mind at all?

    1. F2FF,
DCA is so easy with Loyal3 and I love it. If the purchase is made with a credit card it takes 2 days for the charge to go through.

  3. Hey PIP,
I noticed we have some of the same picks for the week. I am considering adding to VFC because of their long term dividend history and diverse brands. AAPL is a great pick and should do well the next few quarters.

    1. Mongrel,

I should have bought a bigger chunk of VFC a few years ago but I had concerns because of the low starting yield. That was a mistake. AAPL is the only company in my Loyal3 portfolio that I have some concerns about, but that's just because a few mishaps with product offerings could hurt them. But there's a bunch of people that love AAPL products. They're good but I don't understand the draw of paying more when you can find something else that is essentially equivalent for cheaper.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Awesome group of companies. Loyal3 is great to DCA into some solid positions. I'm trying to invest on a weekly basis with my account to slowly accumulate a nice chunk of shares.

    1. SAG,

DCA is good and getting to do it for free is even better. Consistent weekly investments will add up greatly over the long term if you stick with some of the great companies that they have on their docket.

  5. Thanks for sharing all these fee free purchases you made. Bit by bit works too as long as you stay consistent. I think it's just as important to invest every month no matter what the market does and build your snowball in that manner. I'd love to add more VFC to my portfolio but I still think it is a little too rich at current prices.

    1. DivHut,

Fee free is awesome! I'd been looking for a way to invest smaller amounts on a consistent basis without having to set up a bunch of investment plans through companies and Loyal3 is much easier. I still want to keep a good chunk of capital for regular purchases in my brokerage account but investing some money every month is going to really boost the portfolio over the long run. With my Loyal3 account I'm not too worried about the valuations because there's going to be times when I buy on the cheap. That's the beauty of DCA!

      Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Steve,

It's been quite a busy October not counting work or investing. But consistent investing will add up over time. Once I figure out what our expenses will be like then I might be able to put some more capital to work in my regular brokerage account but I'm not really sure yet. The good thing is that the portfolio continues to churn out dividends and I get a few dividend increases each month as well.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  7. Whew doggy! Look at all those purchases! Glad to see you're continuing to leverage the Loyal3 platform to DCA into some solid companies. This month I've picked up UL, MCD, YUM, and KRFT so far, and might have some more activity before the end of the month.

  8. JC,

Busy, busy! DIS is a company that I hope to own a stake in at some point. Regret not buying it a while ago.

I hope all is well with Lucas. My thoughts are with you.

    Best regards.
