Weekly Roundup - November 1, 2014

October has been a crazy month and I can't believe that it's already done with.  I didn't get to take advantage of the market selloff, well at least not with larger purchases, because investing was hardly my priority for the month.  Essentially the whole month was spent with a few days at the hospital then a few days back at work then some more days at the hospital then a few more at work.  There's been so many changes for Lucas but things are looking good and stable right now.  Now we just need another 2 weeks and then as much time after that as he'll give us.  He's still not out of the woods yet because the real action will start once he gets here but he'll definitely be starting out in much better shape.

If you read through my 3rd Quarter Goals Update post I failed pretty miserably on my health related goals.  The 3rd quarter was a hell of a quarter and I'm glad that it's over with.  Even though we're already one month into the 4th Quarter, there's no time like the present to get started on a goal.  I'm planning on going an working out this evening once I get off work and with a new month I want to set some mini-monthly goals to hopefully keep me more motivated throughout the month and do at least a little bit every day.  So my monthly goals for November are going to be:

  1. 1,000 pushups
  2. 1,000 squats
  3. 1,000 burpees
  4. 30 minutes of planks
That works out to 33 pushups/squats/burpees per day and 1 minute of planks.  We'll see how these goals go and ideally these will be done on top of regular exercise at the gym as well.

In case you missed them, here's some of the latest posts from Passive-Income-Pursuit.
Thanks again to all of you that stopped by, commented or shared posts from Passive-Income-Pursuit these past few weeks.  I truly appreciate it and can't thank you all enough.  I'm hoping things will settle down a bit so I can get back to a regular posting schedule but things might be extremely hectic next week.

    1. A-G,

Yeah, I've already slacked some on the burpees because they absolutely suck. But I'm doing good on the rest.

  2. Hi JC,

Dang, that's a lot of reps - congrats on making the commitment!

I started up my fitness routine again last month although I only do bodyweight exercises and no weights. I alternate bodyweight (squats, pullups, pushups and leg raises) with Pilates mat work 5 days a week.

Thanks for including my article in your roundup!

Best wishes to you and your family, I hope baby Luke is doing well

    1. R2R,

I plan on providing weekly updates with my roundup. Well assuming I can get back to regular roundups as well. All of those are just bodyweight so I don't really have any excuse to not do them each day. Although I did skip my burpees yesterday. I already started feeling the soreness after day one, but considering that was after a long sabbatical from working out I expected as much. I probably should have gone a bit less aggressive to start off but the goals are already set.

Things are going well with Lucas right now but all the real action will start in the next few weeks, well hopefully he'll be stubborn and it'll be longer.

    1. R2R,

I really needed something to try and keep me motivated throughout the month. I didn't want to do anything at all last night after work but I also didn't want to skip out on my goals on day 2. This should hopefully help out.

      Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Ferdi,

Thanks so much. Worst case scenario is that he's in a much better starting point whenever he decides to come. Although hopefully we don't see him until sometime in December.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  5. JC,

I hope everything continues to improve for Lucas! My thoughts.

Best of luck with those fitness goals. Those are fairly aggressive, but I'm sure you can knock them out if you stick with it.

    Appreciate the mention!

    Best regards.

    1. DM,

Thanks so much for your thoughts. He's in much better shape that he was a month ago and now the goal is another 2 weeks and then they'll remove the balloon and then hopefully he'll continue to hang out for another month or so.

Pretty aggressive goals but I needed something to keep me motivated. In hindsight I probably should have gone with about half of what I did but the goals are set! I'm doing pretty good through 2 days but I did slack on the burpees yesterday. Those suck!

      Thanks for stopping by!

No problem. And it'll be interesting for sure. Hasn't really been a dull moment yet and he isn't even here yet. Although I don't want to see him for another 1.5 months.

      Thanks for stopping by!

    1. w2r,

No problem. Things are looking better and he continues to grow and be extremely active. They're talking about taking out the balloon next Friday when he hits 34 weeks and while we hope that we won't see him for another month or so, I think it'll be earlier.

      Thanks for stopping by!
