Weekly Roundup - May 14, 2016

This past week was pretty uneventful and I'm still trying to figure out a better schedule for myself during the day now that I have a whole lot more time on my hands.  I'm still bouncing ideas around for what to do moving forward.  Since most of my options would have me changing career fields completely I'm hoping to get in contact with some people in the respective fields to sit down and chat with them to get the inside scoop on what the potential jobs are really like.

Our big concern was what to do in the meantime so we could have some income coming in.  I know my wife didn't want to go back to work, but like I mentioned she had the easiest path to employment.  The great news is that she's already lined up a teaching job for the next school year.  So at least we'll have some income coming in.
My original plan for the year was to wait until I went on FMLA once my wife has our child in July and then I'd use that time to finally make the swap over to Wordpress.  Well, with a lot more time on my hands now the switch will likely be moved up until the next few weeks.  I'm just now starting the process, although I need to get a lot of writing done too which is a bit at odds with making the move.  If anyone has any tips or tricks on making the move please feel free to pass them along because I'm looking for ideas and ways to make the transition as seamless as possible.

Now that I'm home again I can get back to sharing some of the definitions from The Devil's Financial Dictionary by Jason Zweig (affiliate link).  For those that don't know the book is a nice little time killer that gives brutally honest and often humorous definitions of different finance and investing terminology.

Today's word/definition is:
"Long-Term, adj. - On Wall Street, a phrase used to describe a period that begins approximately 30 seconds from now and ends, at most, a few weeks from now."
The definition of long term varies wildly from person to person.  For Warren Buffett it means a lifetime; however, oftentimes the talking heads really mean a couple months at most.  The longer your investment horizon the higher likelihood of the share price actually reflecting the value of the company.

    1. Bryan,

Layoffs suck because they usually come at an inopportune time but I feel things will work out. I think it'll give me the push to actually pursue another route with my career and hopefully get into something that is a bit more balanced in terms of work schedule even if it means the income won't be quite as high. All the best.

    1. AFFJ,

No problem and I hope you had a great weekend. We had a pretty good one although the rain is back this week which is a bit of a bummer.

I'm curious to know your main motivation for moving to wordpress?

    1. Ferdi,

There's a lot more freedom on WP in regards to site design and it should be a lot better if I do try and push towards turning this into more of a business as opposed to a side hustle.

      Thanks for stopping by!

    1. DGI,

I'm hoping to try and get myself into a schedule with a lot more things. Trying to meet goals when you have no required schedule is pretty difficult since it's all based on me and my own motivation. That's probably the hardest thing about not having a job because it forces you to be accountable completely to yourself.

      All the best.
