Cancel Crash? | Weekly Roundup - February 17, 2018

Curated list of articles on dividend growth investing, financial independence, freedom and passive income

Well that was a short lived correction.  After the market volatility that saw the S&P 500 down over 10% in just a few short days the week prior, investors bid shares higher and ended with 6 straight up days.  The S&P 500 is still about 4.7% off it's pre-correction high, but it appears like the crash is cancelled as of now.

Aside from the market rebounding nicely I have to say it was a great week for one of my favorite things: dividend increases.  Three different companies announced that they would be giving me a pay raise!  That's more than I can say about my day job.  Even better is that there's still at least 2 more that I expect to get this month and likely a 3rd one.  Man it's nice to see those raises coming in.

Despite the happiness from seeing dividend increases I have to say the week was pretty frustrating.  It started off with me likely being able to go home last Sunday to now me still being at work and HOPEFULLY getting home tomorrow.  An extra week at work is now bueno.

To top it off I had driven to town to go get some groceries and went to Wal-Mart just fine.  Went to a gas station just fine.  Came out of the gas station and my car wouldn't start.  I would have loved to save some money and fix it myself, but I wasn't 100% sure what the issue was, I thought it was the fuel pump which is what ended up being the cause, and it would be difficult to diagnose and then get the parts.

Especially since at the time I had a limited time schedule with me potentially going home on Friday.  So that meant paying for a mechanic to look at it and get it fixed.  Nearly $800 of unplanned expenses later and I was able to get my car again.  At least the extra days at work helped to cover those costs.

Eventually I will get back home, one way or another.  And I can't wait to spend time with my wife and daughter.  They're the reason I do what I do.
