Weekly Roundup - June 4, 2016

Happy Weekend!  Check out what's been going on in my world and some of the best articles from around the blogosphere.

Seriously this rain needs to stop.  Another week and another pounding from the rain.  Tuesday was bad and there was quite a bit of flash flooding going on near where we live, but my wife and I were safe, our pets were safe and our house was safe...for now.  The problem was that we had gotten 5-6 inches of rain in a short time period and then they were predicting another 5-6 inches of rain per day for the next 2-3 days.  Yikes!  Luckily, as I write this, we're perfectly fine.  I have friends that live in the area that don't have water in their house yet, but if you don't have a lifted truck you won't be making it down the street.  So yeah I'm done with the rain.
My wife and I have also been getting the nursery ready a little bit every day.  Since she's going to be 35 weeks this coming Monday the baby could come at anytime so we need to be at least a little prepared.  We have just about everything that we absolutely need, name a car seat and a crib, so we can get the baby home.  Now that we're moving into the final push I'm getting pretty excited to find out whether we're having a boy or a girl.  In case you don't remember we're finding out the way they used to whenever the baby gets here.  In this day and age with instant gratification on just about anything it's been really nice having this one thing to wait for and build up anticipation.

I'm still working on getting into a routine for my writing and other blog development activities, but it's slowly coming around.  This is going to be absolutely vital to do since being a stay at home dad and full time blogger while my wife goes back to work is a very possible reality over the coming months.

The Devil's Financial Dictionary by Jason Zweig (affiliate link) is a nice little time killer that gives brutally honest and often humorous definitions of different finance and investing terminology.

Today's word/definition is:
"New Economy, n. - An economy identical to the old one, with only one difference: more hype.  Memes such as 'New Economy' are dangerous, as they seek to replace skeptical analysis with pat catchphrases.  And they often proliferate at the worst possible time; Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan, for instance, suggested in a speech in late 1998 that a 'new economy' might well have arrived.  A year and a half later the stock market boom he had pointed to went bust."

    1. DIH,

So far the only issue is that the baby was still breech at her 34 week appointment so hopefully the baby will turn itself around by the 36 week appointment. Other than that everything is going smoothly.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I bet you are done with the rain buddy. Now the trouble is that you've pushed it our way. We're supposed to get 5"-7" on Monday and Tuesday morning. Fortunately, Florida generally handles teh rain better than Texas......but things get messy when we get more than 2 or 2.5" in per hour of intensity. Last July we had 17" in a little less than 2 weeks and it culminated with 8" of rain on one day. I'll let you know how it goes and you keep us up to date on the little one! Thanks for sharing our post buddy

    1. Bryan,

Sorry for pushing the rain your way, but at this point it just needs to leave. we've had so much rain in the past week it's ridiculous. Hopefully y'all stay safe and it kind of burns itself out a bit by the time it gets over there.

      All the best!

  3. Thanks for the mention, JC.
Wow...I heard about the floods out there in Texas...sounds horrible. Hope you guys are doing ok and dont end up with water damage in your homes.
Its great to hear that you are getting ready to welcome your child and you dont know the gender. We did the same...we didnt find out. In this day and age, there are so few surprises and we wanted to find out when our daughter was born.

    Best wishes

    1. R2R,

No real flooding in our immediate area although some of the surrounding areas got it really bad.

That was our thoughts exactly regarding finding out the gender. It's one of the few remaining things where you can be truly surprised. After everything with Luke the gender is far from the most important thing and it's great getting to find out in just a few short weeks. The suspense just keeps building which is awesome.

      All the best!
