Weekly Roundup - December 16, 2017
Happy Weekend! Check out what's been going on in my world and some of the best articles from around the blogosphere. |
I haven't been able to get back into the swing of a regular writing schedule but much of that has to do with things out of my control. Namely two reasons in particular. One, the drilling where I'm at is quite fast so it's hard to refocus whenever I have to stop to actually do work and then get anything done. We're talking 10-15 minutes to refocus and write before I get disturbed again. The second reason is that I've been having a trainee with me for the better part of the last 1.5 months so teaching them things about the job as well as the fast drilling has made it quite difficult. Not to mention the fact that I don't think I should set the example of me half paying attention to things since I know what's going on. So finding time to get some writing done has been difficult, but it should hopefully get better here shortly.
I was also on vacation for the better part of the last 2 weeks which was wonderful. For those that don't know I'm essentially on call 24/7 with my job except when I'm on vacation so I finally got a chance to not have my phone by my side at all times and it was wonderful. My wife, daughter and I made a quick weekend trip over to San Antonio where my wife ran in the Rock 'n Roll 1/2 Marathon and then we just kind of explored the city for the rest of the time we were there.
We also did a River Walk cruise, there's a river that runs through the heart of San Antonio that's been turned into a tourist attraction with boat rides and a little bit of history lesson from the guides. The best part was that since we're in the holiday season they had the trees around the river decorated with lights and my daughter absolutely loved it. The whole ride she was just standing in my lap saying "lights" or "water", well more like "liiiiiiiii" and "wawa", but she was super excited.
Some other big news is that my family will be making a big family trip, ~20 of us in total, down to the Cayman Islands in July of next year. I remember about 20 years ago when we all went, of course our group was much smaller then, and the trip was fantastic. It'll be great to get another chance to go down there as a big family and enjoy the sun and sand.
