Weekly Loyal3 Purchases

Back in August I started a new portfolio with Loyal3.  Loyal3 is a new brokerage that allows you to make purchases with no commission costs.  That's right, fee free investing.  Even better is that you can make the purchases with your credit card and earn cash back rewards.  For me that's an extra 1% yield on the first year's dividend.  It's a great way to dollar cost average into positions over time although they do have a limited selection of companies you can invest in.

Each week I plan to make small purchases in several companies to slowly build up the positions.  This allows me to get some capital invested every week, for free.  The valuations might not always be the best but it does help me to consistently build up my portfolio and dividend stream that will eventually allow me to consider early retirement.

The markets have started to recover a bit from the volatility from earlier this month, so I've just been adding slowly but surely to several wide moat companies.   I invested $325 since my last update so without further ado, here's the transactions.
  • BRK.B - 10/16/14 0.1824 shares @ $137.03 / 0.00% YOC / $0.00 annual dividends
  • AAPL - 10/16/14 0.2511 shares @ $99.58 / 1.89% YOC / $0.47 annual dividends
  • KRFT- 10/16/14 0.4487 shares @ $55.72 / 3.77% YOC / $0.94 annual dividends
  • PEP - 10/16/14 0.2676 shares @ $93.44 / 2.80% YOC / $0.70 annual dividends
  • KO - 10/16/14 0.5766 shares @ $43.36 / 2.81% YOC / $0.70 annual dividends
  • AAPL - 10/18/14 0.2409 shares @ $103.77 / 1.81% YOC / $0.45 annual dividends
  • DIS - 10/18/14 0.2823 shares @ $88.53 / 09.7% YOC / $0.24 annual dividends
  • MDLZ - 10/18/14 0.7327 shares @ $34.12 / 1.76% YOC / $0.44 annual dividends
  • VFC - 10/18/14 0.3704 shares @ $67.50  / 156% YOC / $0.39 annual dividends
  • PEP - 10/18/14 0.2638 shares @ $94.78 / 2.76% YOC / $0.69 annual dividends
  • MDLZ - 10/20/14 0.7327 shares @ $34.12 / 1.76% YOC / $0.44 annual dividends
  • VFC - 10/20/14 0.3704 shares @ $67.50 / 1.56% YOC / $0.39 annual dividends
  • KO - 10/21/14 0.6086 shares @ $41.08 / 2.97% YOC / $0.74 annual dividends
My forward 12-month dividends for my Loyal3 portfolio are now up to $29.93.  Adding that to my regular taxable account's forward dividends of $5,207.03 and my total forward dividends are up to $5,23695.  I'm now 95.22% of the way towards my revised goal of $5,500.

I've updated my Portfolio page to reflect these changes.

  1. Can't go wrong with those companies and the ability to slowly DCA into a position without fees. I'd like to start adding BRK.B but haven't been hestitant without the divvies. You thinking it's only a matter of time now for them to start paying?

    1. BRK.B will never pay dividends.

    2. They may spin off which is just as good.

    3. @SAG - DCA for free is awesome and I really like that it's all in one place. While BRK.B isn't the traditional DG company that I invest in I believe that it's still a great investment. WB has one of the best track records around and as long as he's at the helm then I don't see why I should take cash out of his hands. I expect to see dividends get paid once WB/CM sadly leave us or to see the company get broken up. It could be a huge spinoff if they truly broke the company up into similar operating segments. Plus now that I own at least one share of BRK.B I can go to the shareholders meeting next year if everything works out right.

  2. Man, really building your account quite quickly! Not that I can say much since I put in $1k this month. I'm glad that you're enjoying utilizing Loyal3 as much as I have this year.

    1. w2r,

Since I've been trying to hoard a bit more cash due to Luke but still want to invest some capital each month, well each week actually, Loyal3 has been great. No fees and easy diversification, what's not to like? In a normalized expense environment I'll invest $3-5k in my regular brokerage account and $1k in Loyal3 each month. That should do wonders over the next few years.

      Thanks for stopping by1

  3. I like the idea of earning an extra 1% from CC cash back awards, provided, of course, that you pay off the whole balance every month.

    1. Ferdi,

Definitely. If you don't have a solid grasp on your monthly finances or don't routinely pay off your credit cards every month then by all means do NOT use a credit card to purchase stocks. But for those that are responsible with their money that extra 1% comes in handy!

  4. Way to go, look at that diversity for such small capital. Loving it. Great work!

    1. Ryan,

Loyal3 has been awesome. I've been able to make 85 $25 purchases since mid August and haven't spent a penny on commission and have gotten great diversification.

  5. A little bit of everything I see. I guess that's the beauty of $0 commish. Regarding your point about not always getting the best valuations with your monthly purchases you are taking advantage of time. After all, "time in the market is better than timing the market." Thanks for your recent purchase update.

    1. DivHut,

With small frequent purchases valuation isn't the key, it's getting capital invested.

    2. I agree on the valuation point. If you have a 10 year plus time horizon, intrinsic value will only climb, so not getting the best monthly or yearly valuation for that matter doesn't really impact you.
