Weekly Roundup - August 13, 2016...I'm Melting Edition

Weekly Roundup filled with some of the best articles on dividend growth investing, stock analyses, personal finance and financial independence from the past week.
Happy Weekend!  Check out what's been going on in my world and some of the best articles from around the blogosphere.
The 3 day SAHD trial this week turned into a 4 day trial, but no one was worse for the wear.  Our daughter had a few tears, but I'm happy to report that there were none from me.  It's hard to believe it, but as of August 9th she's already a month old.  This past month has been a complete blur and it's amazing to see how much she's changed in just one month.  She went from essentially only sleeping and eating to now being awake for an hour or so at a time and exploring her world.

Heat wave, sun, Texas, summer

In other news it's freaking HOT!  August is usually the hottest time of the year down here in Houston and this year is no different.  It wouldn't be so bad if we would get the occasional afternoon shower to take some of the bite out of the heat, but so far that's not happened.  The forecast is calling for rain this weekend which is just fine by me because it's way too hot to do anything outside from about 10 AM to 7 PM.

It was a pretty good week for data collection and just general thinking/brainstorming although not quite as productive with writing as I'd have liked.  I really need to improve on time management and also get some posts written beforehand and stockpiled up.  Overall though things are going well and I hope to take advantage of this weekend and my wife being back home.  She'll be on maternity leave until October so hopefully with 2 of us to watch after our daughter that can boost my productivity.

The Devil's Financial Dictionary by Jason Zweig (affiliate link) is a nice little time killer that gives brutally honest and often humorous definitions of different finance and investing terminology.

Today's word/definition is:
"X, abbr. - The symbol appearing in Internet stock quotes or newspaper stock tables indicating that a stock, mutual fund, or exchange-traded fund went EX-DIVIDEND on that day.  On the ex-day or 'X-date', the stock price should fall by approximately the amount of the dividend per share.  Inattentive investors are often unnecessarily alarmed by that drop in price."
On to the Roundup

  1. Believe it or not, its been freakin hot here in Canada too. We had a heatwave that lasted a few days and it was uncomfortable to be outside even in the evenings. Thankfully we got some showers and its cooled down now -- and almost feels like spring now.
Good to hear that you are adjusting well to life with a daughter -- I know I am :) Its amazing how fast they change...I keep checking pictures from when she was a newborn, and Im amazed at the progress in the last 3.5 months.

Thanks for the mention & have a great weekend

    1. R2R,

We've already had some rain this morning which is awesome. Everything outside needed it and it will surely go a long way towards knocking some of the heat down. They really do grow up so fast especially at this age. For one it seems like it's been just a couple weeks but today is 5 and what's really crazy is how much change they're going through day after day. She's becoming so much more alert and aware and it's awesome to see.

      Have a great weekend.

  2. Thanks for adding my post to your list. It's 82 and perfect in the Bay Area today. But, I just got back from LA, it was 105 when I flew out of there yesterday.
