Curated list of articles on dividend growth investing, financial independence, freedom and passive income
Happy Weekend!  Check out what's been going on in my world and some of the best articles from around the blogosphere.
What a week.  On Wednesday I headed back home because my wife was going to be making a trip out to Nashville to visit one of her good friends and run the Nashville Rock'n'Roll 1/2 Marathon.  That meant it was daddy-daughter time from Thursday until Monday.

We've made a trip to the zoo which was fun, although it'll be so much better once our daughter is about another year older.  She has a bit of a hard time finding the animals since she can't really focus or even know what she's looking for.  And it didn't help that Friday was HOT so most of the animals were lounging by the afternoon hours when we got there.  She really loved the fish that they have in the aquarium at the zoo.  Although I imagine a lot of that is because it's much easier for her to see them since they're so close.

Saturday we headed out to Conroe where they were having a KidzFest.  While I knew we'd just kind of be walking around, my daughter was well entertained because she loves people watching already.  She definitely got that from her mama.  If they still have the festival in a few years we'll definitely be making a trip back for it.

I'm only 3 days into my 5 days of full time daddy duty and it's been great, but man is it tiring following an almost 10 month old around.  I really need to teach her the awesomeness that is being still.  At least for 10 minutes out of every hour.  Maybe 5.

If you live in the South you're very accustomed to the heat that is just starting to ramp up.  Unfortunately for us we now have about a $10k expense that we weren't really planning on.  When it rains it pours.  Our air conditioner is on its last legs and we're at the point where it'd be about $3k to repair/fix it with no clue how long it would last or spend $10k and just replace it.  It was an easy decision to make, but man was I hoping to throw that $10k towards reducing debt not taking on more.  Although we have 18 months same as cash so this will probably be off the books in a few months.  *Sigh I can't wait for a year where there's nothing major financially that goes on.

I've been getting lots of questions regarding what I'll be doing with my Loyal3 portfolio.  My original plan was to transfer the funds over to another brokerage account because I don't see any advantage to just sticking with the FolioFirst transfer.  However, since the portfolio is quite small at about $4k and the new big expense in replacing our air conditioner I'm leaning towards taking the majority of the funds in cash to throw at our debt.  It's going to suck because it's going to create a taxable event on most of those holdings, there's still a few that I'm just going to roll into a brokerage account, and it's going to reduce our dividends, but in the long run it's probably the smartest move to make.

  4. Looks like a fun time for you at the zoo and a fun time for your baby just to be with you. We waited till baby DivHut was almost two before his first trip to the zoo. Actually, before going to the zoo I went him to our local Petco/Petsmart. It's free and there are lizards, rabbits, fish, frogs and more to look at :) Thanks again for the DivHut mention! Stay cool.

  5. Thanks for the mention JC. Best of luck with your daddy daughter time! After replacing our AC last summer, it might be worth price checking at Costco as that's where we found the best deal in our area.

  6. That's a shame you have to replace it. Hopefully it can be done smoothly and doesn't cost you too much!
