Weekly Roundup - June 15, 2013

This has been a great week.  With the recent additions to my portfolio, the invested value of my FI Portfolio crossed the $110k mark but we'll see what Mr. Market does to keep it above that level.  But the best part about this week is that this job is over now.  It's going to be a pain driving all the way home, hopefully almost straight through, but it'll definitely be worth it.  We're having a BBQ with friends today so hopefully the weather will be nice and I'll be home in time for it.

I also wanted to share this article in case you didn't see it:  Asleep on the job: Banker's nap Costs Millions.  Essentially an employee at a bank in Germany fell asleep while in the process of typing in a funds transfer for a customer.  The employee then fell asleep and instead of typing 62.40 Euros typed in 222,222,222.222 Euros.  For us non-Europeans that's $295 million instead of $82.80.  Um...that's a bit of a difference and apparently the clerk then woke up and didn't even check and just hit submit or ok or transfer or whatever it is their system says to approve the exchange.  The thing that really bothers me is that the error wasn't caught and the supervisor only has "3 seconds" to check each transaction.  In the end the supervisor was fired but the courts decided that she should have been just warned and not fired and was duly reinstated.  How does someone not get fired for that?

Thanks again for everyone that mentioned Passive Income Pursuit this past week.  I truly appreciate it.

    1. MyFIJ,

They never make an error in my favor either. And I'm sure if they did they would then charge a penalty fee.

  3. Pursuit,

I was extremely busy this weekend. Didn't get to stop by, so just wanted to say thanks for mentioning me. Hopefully the BBQ was great and you had some nice weather for it! :)

    Best wishes.
